Lamanai is one of the most important Mayan sites in Northern Belize. It was a powerful centre since 1500 BC till post-Classic period, being one of the few Mayan cities of the region to survive the downfall of late Classic period.
The site includes over 700 structures, most important of which is Mask Temple. The excavations, which are still farm from being complete, brought important finds, such as pottery and metal (mainly copper and bronze) objects.
