The Field Museum submitted by bat400 : Chicago's Field Museum "The Ancient Americas" permanent exhibit. The entrance into the extensive galleries. Photo by bat400, March 2009. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Museum in Cook County, Illinois.
World famous for its exhibits and research collections of natural history, anthropology, and archaeology, particularly of the Americas.

The permanent exhibit, The Ancient Americas, reopened in March 2007. Artifacts, reconstructions, videos, and interactive displays are grouped by different "approaches" peoples of the prehistoric Americas developed to meet the challenges of changing environments. The exhibits are not, strictly speaking, arranged chronologically or by geography. However, the cultural approaches start the visitors at galleries focusing on hunter gatherers, and then lead to agriculturalists, and on to traders and artisans. And similarly from societies that produced fewer, simple artifacts, to those that produced complex, varying artifacts, architecture, and complex cultural artifacts like writing. The museum's web site has a section documenting the exhibit.

There are extensive exhibits on Anthropology (or Archaeology) of Ancient Egypt, a comparative exhibit of Contact-Era North American Arctic and Temperate Coastal cultures, contemporary African cultures, and contemporary Native American culture and artwork.
Natural History exhibits are even more varied and extensive.

The museum is in Grant Park, Chicago, on the lakefront.
