Ancient Village or Settlement in Quintana Roo

The archaeological site of Muyil is located near the lagoon of the same name. The earliest traces of habitation here come from Pre-Classic period, but the religious centre started to develop in the Classic period (200 - 800 CE).

Muyil was a centre controlled by Chichen Itza, while after the downfall of Chichen Itza it became an ally of Mayapan. Currently the ruins of Muyil consist of numerous pyramids, ceremonial platforms and the remains of a settlement.
