Ancient Settlement in Quintana Roo.Remains of an important Maya trade centre of Xcaret are located on the land of local tourist resort. Most of the preserved constructions are dated for Post-Classic period (12th - 15th century AD), however the first traces of habitation are dated for 200 AD.
There are 500 residential structures and over 60 temples scattered throughout the surrounding jungle, only some of which are excavated. The Xcaret tourist park admission includes access to the excavated ancient sites scattered on the north side of the park. Because all attractions (zoo, aquarium, gardens, a mushroom farm, colonial buildings, swimming areas, and theaters) are included, the ticket cost is substantial. Resort Park website.
