According to regional archaeologist William Edward Myer, early accounts stated that historic Indians "held it in high regard," but that their beliefs about the stone had never been recorded. Accounts collected by Myer in the early 20th century varied, with some describing the stone as one of a pair, as an eight foot tall stone about a foot square in cross section, and as having been roughly carved into the shape of a sitting canine. At some point the stone fell over or was upended and people began to collect chips of the stone. A local organization collected the remaining pieces and incorporated them into a stone monument which can be seen today in a small city park.
The location given here is for the current monument.
