New York Cleopatra's Needle
New York Cleopatra's Needle submitted by AlexHunger : The New Yorkers also call this Obelisk Cleopatra's Needle. It was errected at On, otherwise known as Heliopolis a suburb of modern Cairo, around 1600 BCE by Thutmose I. This is the same location the London Obelisk comes from while only one remains in situ. The Romans took it to Alexandria in 12 BCE. The Egyptian government donated it to NYC in 1881 and the move was paid for by the Vanderb... (Vote or comment on this photo)

New York Cleopatra's Needle submitted by Creative Commons : Cleopatra's Needle I was on my way to work early to capture the images at the north end of the Sheep Meadow and noticed the moon was placed over my right shoulder at an angle that would make for an interesting slow-shutter capture with the array of lights surrounding Cleopatra's Needle. I used a Joby Gorillapod tripod and felt I would get a good capture if I captured as much depth of field as poss...

What is the significance and/or reason for what appears to have been difficult and costly placements of these monuments or "TOWERS of Galactic Energy Transmission" in the center of the power metropolises?

That depends whose books you read and which websites you view and what outlook on life you have :-) Either they are just plunder from ancient Egypt placed in a decorative fashion, or they are deliberately fashioned and placed on nodes on the telleuric grid so that it can be manipulated for good or ill, allegedly by a covert organisation which started off as Knights Templar and ended up Freemasons. Or somewhere in between those extremes.
There is "evidence" to support all viewpoints on this, so basically it's as simple or as convoluted and conspiracy-ridden as you choose to believe it is.

Three impressive obelisks were gifts to the countries of England, France & the US and retaining them seems to have been politically or financially motivated.
The one in Paris is the tallest and its sister remains in Luxor. It was raised at the Place de la Concorde in 1833.
The one at Westminster was gifted many years before, but with the proviso that England pay to move it! It sat in the Egyptian sands for 40-odd years before the funds were provided privately to deliver it.
Through convoluted financial maneuvering the City of New York, having heard about the London Needle, secured its sister "as a gift" the following year. (W.H. Vanderbilt put up the $100-k necessary to deliver it) The trend at that time was: "If London and Paris can have one, we should have one too!"
So therefore, IMHO, I'm pretty sure there's nothing of Secret Societies, The Occult, or anything particularly Sinister involved in them being either obtained or in their placement.
(BTW - New York isn't part of New England)
      Best,
      Feanor

The Cleopatra's Needle is not a standing stone nor a menhir, which are megalithic. It is an Egyptian obelisk of the bronze age. Its manufacture can be dated to within a decade - 1460BC.
