Llactapata ("Town on height") is an Inca settlement located in valley of Rio Urubamba. The site was discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1912. Remains of the terraces and stone buildings are preserved in good condition, being one of the major archaeological sites on "Inca trail" leading to Machu Picchu.
