Stone Enclosures in New London County, Connecticut. A housing development planned in Connecticut, north of Mystic, will incorporate a prehistoric stone enclosure site on the grounds, and some provisions for protection. Information on the site is extremely limited and the location is approximate.

The brief description make the structures sound somewhat similar to nearby Gungywamp.

Note: Note: See for comment for an article describing the housing development plan. Any additional information on this site is appreciated.

Subdivision Would Encompass Archaeological Sites by bat400 on Wednesday, 24 January 2007
(User Info | Send a Message)
By Jenna Cho

Ledyard — Three stone chambers found on a proposed 39-lot subdivision are of Native American origin, the state coordinator for the New England Antiquities Research Association told the Planning Commission Thursday night.

Without going into detail, Doug Schwartz talked about the stone walls Native Americans built in the area. He said the walls found on the proposed subdivision were “typical” of such walls and that many of the area's historic stone chambers have been found in Ledyard.

Schwartz spoke during the commission's public hearing on Founders Preserve, a conservation subdivision proposed for 96.523 acres at the Groton town line, between Colonel Ledyard Highway and Pumpkin Hill Road.
