Anta do Cão do Ribeiro is a small dolmen located in Moitas, in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, district of Castelo Branco. This monument was identified in the beginning of the 20th century by the german archaeologist Georg Leisner. It was built in the Neo-Chalcholitic period. This monument is not yet classified.
About the location and size
This dolmen is situated on a small ridge, between agricultural area and forest area. Nearby there is a well and a pond dug in the soil. The debris resulting from opening of the pond was placed on the mound part and along the path. The mound was excavated to the base, on the south side, perhaps for clay extraction. Measures of the radius of the mound, between the center of the burial chamber and the path - 9.40m. The burial chamber consists of five pillars in dark greywacke and was built in a polygonal shape.

The visit to all of these three monuments is free, you only need to follow the signs of the of the PR1 route. Check out also the Anta do Vale do Alvito and Anta or Mamoa do Cabeço da Anta.
