Anta of Cabeço da Anta is a monument located in Moitas, in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, district of Castelo Branco. It was built in the Neo-Chalcholitic period and is not yet classified. This monument is still being interventioned.
About the location, size and other facts
The monument is located under a geodesic landmark known as anta. The site is located in an area that is occupied by a pine forest. When you get to it is possible to see a large mound of about 38 m in diameter (NS-EW axes) and more than 3 m tall. At top can be observed the marks of the archaeological survey that is taking place. The chamber is made with greywacke-schist pillars.
About the access
The municipality of Proença-a-Nova included this and other two dolmens in a pedestrian route and named it A História na Paisagem (The History in the Landscape). The visit to all of these three monuments is free, you only need to follow the signs of the of the PR1 route. Check out also the Anta do Cão do Ribeiro and Anta do Vale do Alvito. If you want you can visit all monuments separately.
