Standing Stone (Menhir) in Co. Down

A prehistoric standing stone, scheduled.

From ID: Situated on the 18th Green at Clandeboye Golf Club is this fine example of 'Scrabo' sandstone, 1.87m tall x 1.25m broad x 0.20m thick.
The site offers a panoramic view from NE to SE overlooking much of Bangor, The North Channel and in good weather Scotland.
The name Conlig translates as 'the hound stone', local names for the site are 'hound hill' and 'runestone hill'.
In the clubhouse is an old photograph from the 1920's which shows the stone partly buried in the bank of a square enclosure of roughly 20m per side.
The western face of the stone shows signs of recent damage in several place and there is unfortunately a new crack visible of the southern face.

Standing stone located just inside the Clandeboye golf course east of Helens Tower and just off the Clandeyboye Way footpath near Whitespots leadmines. Fair condition, easily accessible but in the golf course. Ambience moderated by golf.
