Carrownacaw Long Stone submitted by ladrin : 3,5m tall stone is unfortunately poorly preserved. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Standing Stone (Menhir) in Co. Down

Slender piece of slate stone standing in the corner behind the wall on the private property. So called "Long stone" is about 3.5 metres tall and leans to the southwest.

Available sources talk about related minor archeological findings below the object. Most probably of Bronze Age origin. Surrounding of the stone is quite desolate and the menir itself is from unkown reason wrapped in barbed wire.

The stone is located about 200m east of the Loughmoney dolmen by the dead-ended Carrownacaw road. Nearby house seems to be abandoned.
