Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Highlands
Tobar Mhoire is a natural spring covered by 3 granite slabs. A church, of which no trace remains, is supposed to have stood near this well and is probably the one shown on a map dated 1662. A burial ground is still in use nearby.
To find the well leave the A832 to the right to Incheril. We drove to the carpark at the end of the road and took the walking track to the west but this got us on the wrong side of a deer fence and as the gate was locked we were stuck. On the second attempt we turned first left after leaving the A832, parked near the end of the road and continued on foot past the farmhouse on the left. Don’t go up to the cemetery, stay on the flat past the front of a small disused quarry, cross a stream at the west end of the quarry and follow the stream a short way to your left. The well is between the stream, which it joins, and the deer fence.
