Ancient Village or Settlement in Perth and Kinross

Described as 'truly remote but easy to find' by The Northern Antiquarian (TNA), this site is featured on their Casteal Mhic Neill, Cashlie, Glen Lyon, Perthshire. TNA gives directions on how to find this site, together with photographs and a brief archaeology and history.

Further information can be found on Canmore ID 23986, which adds this is "the tumbled remains of a homestead ..... situated at the foot of a S-facing slope in a poor defensive situation. Intermittent traces of the inner and outer wall faces are visible giving a width of 2.8m and an internal diameter of 13.8m. The entrance passage is not apparent. The remains of a crude building in the SW of the interior are probably contemporary with a shieling bothy to the S. The name "Caisteal Mhic Neill" is still used locally."
