Hillfort in Carmarthenshire

Actually, a short walk on a narrow road will take you straight to the castle. It is a good castle with many spaces to explore, but this is all medieval, and we don't do medieval. Fortunately the castle has been plonked into an Iron age hill fort, in places there are still two well preserved banks and ditches, obviously they're defensive in any age. Couldn't see any sign of the entrance though, later castle building has done away with it.

Llansteffan Castle
Llansteffan Castle submitted by Horatio : Even though Medieval you can just picture the much earlier Iron Age promontory fort especially with those earthworks standing out so well in the low light. The hill on which now the castle stands commands the River Tywi estuary. The hill would have been stripped of trees so that foot soldiers were vulnerable to attack by archers. A dramatically placed castle, but then again, most are. (Vote or comment on this photo)
