The top of the head is flat so that ritual items could be placed on it, and the hole at the side of the mouth was used to offer foods to the God an...

Visited this museum in October 2009. Have to say we were very disappointed as the 'museum' is now a 'history gallery' strictly for the kids. Few artifacts, no dates or locations - just a lot of interactive educational toys to entertain school parties. Little to learn here.

We asked the curator if there was a model of the interior of Barclodiad-y-Gawres as stated on this site - there was at one time he said, when the museum had a prehistoric gallery.

    Hi Philip
I was also there during October and was disappointed that the Barclodiad Y Gawres item was missing. There had also been a feature on an ancient king or tribal leader... I forget now which one.. when I last visited, but he had gone too.
I do like Oriel Ynys Mon though, and the staff are pretty friendly.
(I'll have some more pics to put up eventually.)

The centre was re-furbished in 2008. so all of the Site is clean and well maintained to a high standard.

The museum and art gallery are now open every day and no charge is made.

The new shop and cafe are excellent and the galleries very good. One gallery holds artifacts and items of interest relating to the island and the other gallery shows art exhibitions.

Plenty of parking and no steps!
