Marked footbaoth on the left just a little way down the road. The path goes steeply downhill for a short way into a field, then take the path up to the left. A lovely location, overlooking the bay towards Criccieth castle in the background.

Caer-Dyni
Caer-Dyni submitted by Tivy01 : Parking for Caer-Dyniis is in a lay-by east of Cricceth.Less than a 5 minute walk from the lay-by.Caer-Dyni has a great view of Cricceth castle. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A forlorn little burial chamber, just by the beach near the railway line east of Criccieth. The slipped capstone has a notch in it. There seems to be a significant number of smaller stones around the base of the stones.

The stone that still supports the capstone appears to be a different rock type from the rest, like a coarse sandstone.

Additional Information submitted by Drew Parsons September 2010:
The Clifton Antiquarian Club surveyed the site in 2006 and found 13 cupmarks on one of the supporting stones. This supports comments made by other visitors to the site since then. In 2010 the site was cleared and had a very pleasant aspect with views towards the hills, coast and castle. It appears to be an earthfast type burial chamber. Access is via a footpath 100 metres back down the road towards Criccieth from the car park just to the east of the town. Beware signs state that thieves operate in this area.

Caer-Dyni
Caer-Dyni submitted by RWarboys : This photograph was taken 18th Dec 2012, a fine sunny morning, rare that time of year. The chamber and the medieval castle face each other across the bay. Down below there are the wall of an ancient building with gnarled trees growing through them. It reminded me of the stone tomb at Manorbier, a much better preserved site but again across the bay from a medieval castle; the later architects respe... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Caer-Dyni
Caer-Dyni submitted by TimPrevett : Cupmarks? Inside the chamber are many concave indentations; this is quite a difficult one to photo, and the bright day made a photo in there more challenging. The more I look at this, the more marks I see. Burial chambers on the Lleyn Peninsula do have a strong precedent of cupmarks.

Easily reached from the Esplanade car park at Criccieth.

From the entrance to the car park take the footpath that runs behind Dylans takeaway. Follow the path (which runs parallel to the railway line) down as far as the pedestrian crossing over the rail tracks. Cross and follow the path (uphill towards the white house) - as the path bends left.. Caer Dyni is easily visible on the right.

Caer Dyni was smaller than i imagined but on a gloriously sunny day punched well above it's weight!

I've spent less time at far bigger sites!

The view from the road past a sheep farm was framed by New Zealand cabbage trees (outside NZ called cordyline trees). The sheep, coastal and hill views and cabbage trees reminded me very much of home (Northland NZ). The Clifton Antiquarian Club surveyed this site in 2006 and found 13 cupmarks on one of the supporting stones. This supports comments made by other visitors to the site since then. In 2010 the site was cleared and had a very pleasant aspect with views towards the hills, coast and castle. It appears to be an earthfast type burial chamber. A lot of gorse immediately next to and surrounding the monument has been cleared: its visibility is greatly improved, and can be seen easily from the main road higher up the hillside.

Re: Caer-Dyni by Anonymous on Monday, 04 September 2006
Hi Team,

There are about 12 cupmarks in total that extend around the western upright. The cupmarks are arguably arranged into three clusters, one in a curious arc shape and similar to those found by Adam Standford on a site in the Isle of Man. I am about to publish the Cae Dyni discovery in detail in Archaeology in Wales (2006).
