Now destroyed tumulus in Fife

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) tells us that little is known about this now destroyed prehistoric tomb. It was mentioned in Young's 1913 history of the township - see their entry for Craigkennockie, Burntisland, Fife.

The TNA entry contains some folklore and details of Young's publication which tells us "how this old tomb was a place that seemed cursed or should not be disturbed."

Note: Do you have any information or historical images about this tumulus that you can add?

Re: Craigkennockie (Burntisland) by Anonymous on Tuesday, 29 August 2017
Craigkennockie is not really the same as Lammerlaws

This is misleading/inaccurate

"
On old maps just below the cited place we find the place-name of ‘Lammerlaws’, which may indicate a name once given to the site, as the element -law is commonly found relating to prehistoric cairns.
"

law = hill, where it is quite common to find cairns, but a law doesn't imply that there is likely to. Be a cairn.

Thanks for this - I've taken the Lammerlaws name off this page. I'll let The Northern Antiquarian know, as the information came from them.
Many thanks for posting this comment, and keeping us right!
