Iron Age Avalon at the Museum of Somerset by Andy B on Wednesday, 25 January 2017
(User Info | Send a Message)
The Festival of Archaeology held at the Museum of Somerset in August 2014, Taunton saw a large number of family visitors for the recent ‘Iron Age Avalon’ day. Demonstrations of ancient wood working techniques were carried out by archaeologists from the Somerset Historic Environment team. Visitors got a close up look at the replica Iron Age bed and canoe, normally displayed at the Avalon Marshes Centre near Shapwick. The Hinkley Point Outreach team were on hand to answer questions about the archaeological exacations on the site of the proposed new power station.

Children enjoyed a trail around the Iron Age displays and were able to spot artefacts from Ham Hill hillfort and the Glastonbury Lake village. They also made badges and wristbands inspired by Celtic artwork.

Some photographs from the day can be seen at the link below, including
