Ancient Cross in Devon
Originally the site of a Saxon church, St Andrew's in Colyton was partially destroyed by fire in 1933. It was during restoration that the circa 800-900 AD Saxon Cross was discovered in the tower, broken up and used by builders during Norman times as part of the fabric.
Now displayed in the South Transept of the church, the restored cross consists of the original shaft and a reconstructed head, with the original head remains standing next to the cross.
