oldman visited on 6th Dec 2018 Well I really don't think that this is the remains of a stone circle. It is an interesting hillside with lots of lumps and bumps but it appears to be made up of old stone walls and green lanes. The 12 stones mentioned here are aligned and appear to run along a lane which if you walk to the boundary of the neighbouring property continues on the other side of the fence and has large stones running down its sides.

Possible Stone Circle in Somerset

This appears to be the remains of a stone circle, with several stones still standing just below the summit of the Flagstaff Hill. It can be easily discovered as there is a large flagstaff on the summit!

Easiest access is by following the footpath from the village of Christon next to Manor Farm. Ancient sites abound in this area, such as nearby Yarberry standing stone. OS map is 153 Explorer map.

I didn''t know about this site but also in Christon village itself there is a very small hillock you almost miss it it''s got a farm called knoll farm at the bottom of it and if you look on Google earth there is a small like stone circle on top of it although when I wanted to o up there it was blocked all way round I knocked on the door in the house next to the farm which correctly backs onto it they said I have to ask farmer down the road but there had been burglaries and also he keeps bulls up there so I didn''t go up but I did stand a little way up the side and to my joy there was a clear line sight of Brent knoll and also crooks peak I a triangle OES anyone know anything about it

This appears not to be the remains of a stone circle, but the remains of a medieval village and farming area.

Still a very interesting site with far reaching views.

My first thought was that the grid ref needed correcting... And then Christon Deserted Village is found on Pastscape.

yes, very interesting looking at this on the satellite pictures, which clearly show a long straight line of stones which look to be on the southern side of the SW to NE "main street" through the area, probably the ancient Holloway. Quoting from Pastscape "Deserted settlement remains, at ST 378576 (6), have also been
surveyed (and shown in part by Clarke). They lie on one side of a
holloway, rising up the south-facing slope".

I have always understood the stones to the southwest of Barleycombe Cottage with associated dwelling platforms to be the remnants of the Shrunken and Deserted Medieval Village of Christon - there are much older Iron Age, Celtic and Roman field systems and associated earthworks in the area but these are further up the hill (Flagstaff)
