Holy Well or Sacred Spring in East Lothian

This site is recorded as a holy well in Walker's Holy Wells in Scotland, though he says nothing more than noting it is a "built well of oval shape". The well is now capped and there is not a lot to see. It is located in the north-east corner of a residential courtyard accessed via a wide passage close to the ruins of St. Andrew's Church.

St. Andrew's Well
St. Andrew's Well submitted by DavidCWoods : As can be seen there's quite a rural atmosphere. I'm afraid I don't know the type of tree attending the well, but it had lots of red berries.

Access is prevented by the barbed wire fence around the field. (Vote or comment on this photo)

St. Andrew's Well
St. Andrew's Well submitted by DavidCWoods : I'm pretty sure this is the well - it's certainly in the place indicated on the OS map of 1883, but I suppose it could be the entrance to a nuclear bunker ! (Vote or comment on this photo)
