The Beeracres Stone
The Beeracres Stone submitted by thecaptain : The Beeracres Stone My new standing stone, almost 6 feet of best Cornish Granite, recently erected in the garden of Beeracres. Despite a nightmare start to things when getting it delivered, we managed to move it into place and erect it last Sunday afternoon fairly easily, and had a nice little celebratory event. I think it looks nicely at home here. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Modern standing stone in my garden in South Gloucestershire. I saw this lovely Cornish Granite stone for sale on eBay via the Forum of this website, and decided that I just had to have it.

The stone, nearly 7 feet in length and threequarters of a ton in weight, arrived on the back of a lorry on a wet Friday afternoon, and was impossible to get moved into the garden with just myself and the lorry driver. However, I had quickly arranged a stoneraising event for the Sunday afternoon, and many friends turned up with enthusiasm and cakes.

So, on the afternoon of Sunday 31st October 2004, with the use of ropes, poles and logs for rollers, we managed to move it across the garden and into a carefully selected position. A hole was dug, and with much coordinated effort, the stone was raised, packed into place with rubble, and the remaining hole returfed with spring bulbs in place.

A small celebration was had, the stone being dressed in holly and ivy, with fairy lights and lanterns when it got dark. A birthday cake for the stone and champagne appeared, and the stone was blessed with a pint of beer, before a few fireworks were let off.

I have to say that I think the stone looks wonderful and very much at home in its new position. It is going to give me much joy over the years.
