The Tillytarmont stones (plural) are a collection of 6 stones, gathered on Donaldstone's Haugh, at the junction of the rivers Isla and Deveron (NJ 533 473)
Of the 6 stones known, 3 were removed to the Anthropological Museum in Aberdeen, and 3 were taken to Whitestones House at NJ 530 470

All are class I stones.

stone 1 - Goose stone - goose, mirror and rectangle
stone 2 - crescent +v-rod above double disc + z-rod
stone 3 - crescent above double disc + z-rod
stone 4 - perpendicular rectangle with notch removed
stone 5 - fine eagle above a pictish beast
stone 6 - snake + z-rod, arch way (rainbow), and mirror + comb

Stones 1,5 and 6 are in the Museum, the remaining 3 have faired badly re the elements. Photographs are included to illustrate this.

If you still wish to see them, if in the area, please visit, and shortly - the carvings are barely visible now. Knock at the door of Whitestones House, as it is privately owned. The owners will direct you to an area of their lower garden.

Aron Bowers
