La Dame Blanche
La Dame Blanche submitted by Aerial-Cam : A Menhir at Grid: UTM 677469 also known as the Ivy Stone, which is 3.5m of diorite, set 1m into the ground and packed in with smaller stones, sometimes known as Trig stones. The site was excavated in 1933 and a few metres to the southwest a pit was found which contained thousands of limpet shells. Standing Stone (Menhir) in Jersey. Grid ref: 67724683
This stone at 2.5m high with nearly another 1m below ground is the longest surviving menhir in Jersey. The stone is unworked except, perhaps, the smooth tip. Excavation showed that it was set in a 0.5m deep oval pit and supported by small stones ('trig' stones) wedging the menhir firmly upright.
