Stone Circle in Staffordshire

I have never found any reference to this place other than in the book 'the Story of Bloxwich' by EJ Homeshaw.
The stones were moved during open cast operations after WW2.
I remember seeing them in the ditch along Gorsey Lane when I was a child but they were completely removed during the construction of a housing estate.

There is a photograph of such in a pamphlet I have somewhere in my possession.
The field at the top of the hill at the junction of Gorsey Lane with Holly Lane is where the stones stood.
On older OS maps a 'monument' slightly to the west of the grid ref. I have given is shown.
From this hill Castle Old fort near Brownhills would have been visible as would Castle ring on Cannock Chase.

On some old maps the field is known as 'the fighting grounds'.
Holly Lane deviated from a straight course to go around these stones and it's route remains to show of their existence.
The site is at the top of a south facing slope.

A further update from Bleakly:
The picture (Google street view) is NOT of the Great Stones of Landywood.
The stone in the picture is/was known locally as the 'Devil's' Stone.
The Standing Stones were in the field on the opposite side of the road.

Below are the co-ordinates as copied from a map on the Library of Scotland website, thus -
http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=16&lat=52.6503&lon=-2.0200&layers=6&b=7&point=52.6434,-2.0031

SJ987057 / 398740 305782 / -2.0201 52.6498 / 52deg 38' 59"N 2deg 1' 12"W

The Position of the Stones is shown by the circle with radiating lines that is in the centre of the link to the map I sent.

Further, Here is a link
https://wyrleyblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/the-great-stones-of-landywood-from-great-wyrley-1051-1951.png

to a photograph that I have managed to find from The Story of Bloxwich by Homeshaw E J, in which I found the first mention of this stone circle when I was a child.

The stones were moved from their original spot by the farmer before the NCB carried out open-cast mining on the field where they stood.

I hope this may help to clear the confusion somewhat.

Thx Bleakly for posting this exceptional forgotten stone circle , and the link to the articles about ( 7 ) of Historian Jo Harrington
The stone circle is on an absolute precise key vortex position from North Pole of an hypothetical , but scientific ancient Phi - Earth grid described by Prof. Bethe Hagens , Anthropology in the USA : UVG Unified Vectoring Grid , called mobile UVG in simulations ; it is implemented in Google Earth , Google Earth overlays being generated by a Phi - grid simulator for sphericals like Earth , Sky , Mars , Moon in Google ; consequently the overlay can be imported in Google Maps
A Face Book group related , were the stone circle is described related UVG : Hidden Leylines G.Maps&Earth
(Did You find new information meantime about the stones positioning?)

I did some further research on the above subject and so here is a link to the site of a blogger who has made a thorough investigation of the Great Stones of Landywood. I don't want to spoil anyone's enjoyment so I post the link so that anyone interested can follow the trail post by post as I did!

This stone is known locally as the 'Devil's stone'.
I have no idea whether it was a part of the original stone-circle.
Local legend has it that if you circle the stone a certain number of times, you will discover your true love - or some such nonsense.
The stone circle stood in the field across the road from this stone. The 'monument' is shown on the OS map of approx 1900. The OS map can be seen here - http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=16&lat=52.6503&lon=-2.0210&layers=6&b=7&point=0,0
