Ana Kai Tangata submitted by mattchapman : Ana Kai-tangata, Eat Man Cave (Vote or comment on this photo)
Ana Kai Tangata cave is on the shoreline of Easter Island near Hanga Roa.

Its name means Eat Man Cave and according to Routlage was a banquting hall for the canibal feasts. On the cieling are painted many birds resembling the sooty terns that flock to the island and played such a part in the bird man cult at Orongo. Routlage states that on the roof of the cave there was also an image of a eurpoean ship over which a bird had been painted, wich indicated that the frescos were regulary renewed. When we visited in 2012 this image was no longer evident.
