Crannog in Co. Mayo

This is a very overgrown crannog in Loughannascaddy on Achill island. It is a 150m walk South from the main road across peat bog.

There aren’t any easily visible features that would suggest this to be a crannog, but during an especially dry summer low water levels revealed several timber piles, defining the extent of the site. Apparently, there are also the remains of a causeway to the crannog but I couldn’t identify these during my visit.
