Round Barrow(s) in Isle of Wight

A nearly disappeared barrow on private land. Approx 0.75 mtrs high and 15mtrs wide. Permission should be gained before visiting. Has been excavated in the recent past but little found of the time of construction. More recent Roman items have been found though.

See video on youtube.

This bowl barrow is also scheduled as Historic England List ID 1010010 which gives slightly different dimensions of 27m wide by 0.4m high. It was excavated in 1854, when a cairn of flints was found covering a mound of clay and gravel; three pottery urns were discovered. HE adds: "Surrounding the mound is a ditch from which material was quarried during its construction. This has become infilled over the years and can no longer be seen at ground level but survives as a buried feature c.5m wide".
