On German maps errors appear quite often: for example Megalithic tombs are marked as "Hügelgrab" what means (bronze age) "barrow". Or bronze age barrows are marked as "Steingrab". But my experience with the French IGN Maps (Scale 1:25000) is, that they are really excellent. I never found an error so far, but of course I did not tried them all ;-) Only a few...
Have you already been there looking for this Menhir or is this planned for next travel?

The map I have which has this marked is a fairly old ign 1:100,000 map. Now I have the 1:25,000 map and it is not on that. Neither is it on any scale on the wonderful géoportail. I agree with you that the 1:25,000 ign maps are excellent, but I have often found errors on the older 1:100,000 maps, including roads that do not exist. I have not looked for myself.

BUT, I am starting to think that there may be some sort of megalithic stone in this area, although not a menhir. I have found a reference to a stone with round hollows carved in it, and finding of some ancient bronze items nerby to it.....

Ahh, the old IGN 1:100 000 so I guess I know what you mean...:-)
I own two of this kind from the Nantes area (Redon and ....uh I do not remember at the moment). They are from the Sixties... and really not very helpful for megalithic purpose.... But they really improved this, didn't they? The 1:100000 I bought in 1999-2001 are far better.
Your new reference sounds quite interesting. Stone with cupmarks?
I guess you will find it ;-)

Since first finding a menhir marked on my ign map at this place several years ago, I have been unable to find any other references to it at all.

This, coupled with the fact that the same map does not have one of the fairly well known Trois Princesses marked on it, and I wonder whether there ever has been a menhir here, and if indeed this is all down to a printing error on my map - it would not be the first error of this kind.

Mind you, this is not to say that there never was one here - many have been destroyed over the last centuries.
