Steeped in legend as the spring that appeared when Saint Frideswide struck the ground with her staff, this is the Treacle Well of Alice in Wonderland. Nicholas Breakspear, who became the only English pope, Adrian IV, was a cleric here.

Visited 27th June 2004. Situated in the Churchyard of Binsey Church (Christ Church ?) at the west end of the church. It is marked as St. Margaret's Well with an arch and a small downward passage to the well below. The arch carries a Latin inscription.
