Rock Shelters in Yorkshire (South)

The site is a series of rock shelters in Edlington Woods. This was a settlement in Upper Paleolithic times for groups of nomadic humans as they moved northwards, following the retreat of the last Ice Age.
The area was excavated in 2003 and a number of flint tools were found. They would have used the rock shelters as a base for hunting in the then treeless tundra.

The rocks are known locally as 'Second Rocks'. There is a very small cave and also years ago there was another limestone entrance to another smaller hole.

I cannot be certain for this site, but our sitepage gives a position accuracy rating of 4 (see top of page), which if correct should be to within a hundred metres or better.
