Round Barrows in Hampshire

Two Bronze Age round barrows are located on the crest of a slope in Hackwood Park, SE of Basingstoke town centre. Both of them are well-preserved and covered with trees.

Barrow "A" is a saucer barrow of 30 m diameter. Its quarry ditch and bank are partly preserved, especially at the west and north.

Barrow "B" is a bowl barrow. Its average height is 1.7 m (4 m of height at the east where the barrow stands against the slope), no traces of a quarry ditch are visible. There are remains of a trench in top part of the barrow.

There is a footpath leading to the barrows from Dickens Lane – look for a wooden gate west of the old bridge.
