JohnLindsay visited on 14th Feb 2013 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 4 |I've heard there has been some excavation around here recently, but haven't yet been able to track down any references. It looks as if there has been at least some scrub clearance.

Horsell Common W submitted by Andy B : The huge Bowl barrow in all its glory. You can just see a circle of yellow grass around it which marks the ditch. Just about fits in the frame from here. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A pair of barrows - a Bowl barrow and a very hard to spot Disc barrow. Very imposing and worth a visit if you want to see some magnificent earthworks.

Note: Sadly the latest War of the Worlds film has been set in America, but there are still some unusual saucer-shaped things to be found on Horsell Common

Horsell Common W submitted by Andy B : You can clearly see the external ditch going around to the left. The barrow mound is just starting to the left. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Horsell Common W
Horsell Common W submitted by Andy B : Probably the best view of the banks of the Disc barrow, crossing the path straight ahead as the trees open into a clearing. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Horsell Common W
Horsell Common W submitted by Andy B : This is the disc barrow, honest! From immediately in front, a very slight ditch can just be seen stretching around to the right, parallel with the line of trees, which look like they have been cleared.

Re: Horsell Common W Street View by Anonymous on Saturday, 01 May 2010
I am pretty sure that I have spotted a very eroded barrow about a mile north of the main barrows, not far from the six crossroads, cut through by a main path. Interestinly several of the later field systems seem to radiate from this feature (which appears to be a disc barrow around 20 meters in diameter). This feature is pretty faint but the snow earlier in the year made it just jump out!
