Dr. Rudge actually described three sites on his 'Puddingstone Trail' at Bedmond. The stone beside the former Swan Inn has definitely gone. The two stones beside a footpath high on a ridge overlooking Hyde Farm may still be there: unfortunately, old age and a dodgy left hip wouldn't let me trudge up there to find out. Dr. Rudge said that these first two sites "may or may not belong to the series" of boulders on his Track, but he seemed to have no doubts about the third one.

He said that this was at TL075040, against a wall bordering a field at the roadiside, on the northern side of Hyde Lane. Both the grid reference and the wall can only mean it was outside the former farmhouse that is now No.19 in that lane. There is no puddingstone there today, but just inside the gate I found a large boulder, 1.3m x 1.2m x 1m high. One of the owners kindly allowed me in to photograph it, but she said that it and a pile of smaller rocks further across the site had been there when they moved in several years ago. Unfortunately I'm fairly sure that this boulder is limestone. There are certainly no pebbles in it, and a rock of that size would have severely restricted the single-track lane outside, which has virtually no verges. So, this appears to be another of Rudge's puddingstones lost to time.
