Gell Spring

Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Yorkshire (East)

The spring, which appears on the 1848 Ordnance Map, should be in the angle of the streams which run through the Danes Dykes nature reserve. I could see nothing unless the pictured dribble running from the bushes is it. ‘Gell’ could be a garbling of ‘Keld’, simply meaning a spring.
