I have visited· I would like to visit

TheCaptain saw from a distance on 8th Sep 1986 During a 2 week sailing trip with friends, I left the rest of the crew to sail L'Aurian from St Mary's all the way round the Western Rocks and in to New Grimsby harbour, Tresco for the night. I spent the day walking round the entire coast of St Mary's visiting many ancient sites, before catching a ferry over to Bryher in the evening and getting picked up by the crew.

Great Arthur has two passage graves and an additional probable one sited along the ridgeway of the hilltop.

The best preserved of these has a circular mound of 9 m in diameter, in which a passage has been built. It retains a capstone. The passage is orientated to the NNE. In addition, there are two cairns on the top ridgeway. There is an interconnecting row of stones between the passage graves which have been described as a boundary from an adjacent field system. It must be noted though that the elevation and steep adjacent slopes along with the height/spacing and prominence of the stones running between the graves have a lot in keeping with the stone rows on Kitten HIll Gugh and the boundary could have had a different purpose and been an adjoining stone row.

Access by private boat only.
