Carreg Siglio
Carreg Siglio submitted by sem : This site bears a striking resemblence to William Stukely's engraving of Avebury, comprising a circle with two "horns" leading from it. The rocking stone was used as a pulpit by Dr William Price to preach his own brand of Druidism. He later found fame when charged with heresy for attempting to cremate his son Iesi Grist (Jesus Christ) in a tin of paraffin. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Rocking Stone on Coedpenmaen Common (a natural stone) was a focal point for public meetings in Pontypridd, ranging from industrial, Chartist and Co-operative rallies to Druidic ceremonies. The ancient stone was supplemented with a Gorsedd circle by Myfyr Morganwg in 1849. The stone is perhaps best known, however, for its links to one of the area’s most infamous residents. Dr William Price would regularly address crowds here. It was also here in 1881 that he married Gwenllian Llewellyn.

With thanks to Owen Gower @owentg on Twitter for the description, where he has posted a vintage postcard of the site and scroll down for more information on Gwenllian Llewellyn his wife.

Carreg Siglio submitted by PERKYPUFFIN : Carreg Siglio (Rocking Stone). Easy access opposite the Hospital on Pontypridd Common. The Rocking Stone is inside a double circle of stones. The Rocking Stone is probably sited in the same place as it was put 2800 BC. One circle of stones was added to by others from across the road when the Hospital was built or before in 19th century. Can anyone inform us as to when it last rocked? Around 19... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Carreg Siglio
Carreg Siglio submitted by TauCeti : Site in Pontypridd Common. The curator of the local museum told me that the central big stones are prehistoric, while the stone circles around it - and the 'snake way' leading to it, are of 19th century construction; the stones of the circles originated from a prehistoric circle which was dismantled to make way to the nearby hospital. Dr William Price did NOT marry Gwenllian anywhere. He refused to marry any woman because in law at that time, when a woman got married all her worldly goods became the possession of her husband and he thought that was wrong.

Ambience 4 Access 5 Accuracy 5 [updated]

Although this stone no longer rocks, it is one of the unique sites in Wales where you can still see a prehistoric rocking stone that would have been used in spiritual rituals in the Neolithic Age. Does anyone know when it last rocked? Certainly it has not rocked for at least 4 years.
It is this site in Pontypridd that started the Bardic and Gorsedd Ceremony tradition in the modern Eisteddfod.
