Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Wiltshire.
This spring comes from the hill on which stands a delightful, small chapel dedicated to Our Lady, hence the dedication. Now the water flows from a pipe in a stone wall.

The surround is recent and unapologetically Christian with a Chi-Rho symbol. A drinking trough (19th Century?) is located nearby and is presumably associated with this spring.

The water has been by the townsfolk for many centuries and is noted for its purity.

Ladywell (Bradford on Avon) submitted by KiwiBetsy : I presume this is the drinking trough referred to above. It is built into a wall in Wellpath and was dry. It seemed to be in a direct line between the Chapel of St Mary Tory (further up the hill) and Ladywell (further down). (Vote or comment on this photo)

The water at Ladywell is not pure and should NOT be drunk. It will give you a very nasty tummy upset.

Bradford on Avon is also famous for the Saxon church of St.Laurence. The building lay undiscovered till 1875, it had served several functions up till that date, and was somewhat hidden in old cottages - at least I think that's the story.
