| Posted Comments: theCaptain (2012-11-30) | Excellent to see this Paul. I really had no idea of this before I visited the other month, but it struck me that something was going on here, and I thought to myself "circle" !
Add the large one in the foundations at the corner between A and D... | Bladup (2012-11-30) | Thanks, finding out afterwards always seems the way [and how a place takes you back one day] and yes there's another stone [but a bit smaller] and the foundation stone makes 6 stones, it then becomes hard not to see it as something older, I'd go for a ruined stone circle as i noticed the horizon's are low all around [even though it's fairly hilly around and not on a hilltop] and therefore the site has a nice big sky, The church is strangely away from any settlement as well, it's as if they wanted to cover up it's pagan past [but leave enough to show it did]. By the way your brea hill photo's looked lovely, that hill has been calling me for awhile now. | theCaptain (2012-11-30) | I really like these places where the "modern" Christian site has been built on the old pagan site, but done "with respect", and instead of destroying the ancient place, it has become incorporated into the more modern structure. I find this intriguing, and it really makes it feel like a living link to the past, sometimes going back 5000 years or more. I'd like to think this place is one of these sites. | pab (2012-11-30) | Well...what a wonderful use of sketching to demonstrate a site! Thanks for this PB (PaulBlades) - such a rich alternative to digital images. And to Angie for persuading me to add this to my 'must visit' list... |
