| Posted Comments: Thorgrim (2004-10-17) | Threatened by religious and political bigots during the Reformation and the Commonwealth, some ancient crosses were hidden beneath the church or as at Castle Hedingham, hidden as a beam in the local pub!Many ancient crosses, especially in East Anglia, were destroyed completely. They were seen by Protestant and Puritan as "Papist idol worship" |
