Most of this fort is surrounded by five ramparts and ditches, except on the west side where there are seven. There are two entrances, one on the western and one on the eastern side.
The western entrance has the unusual and unique feature of a series of deep, rectangular hollows.
No one is certain as to what these were used for, but the main theory is that they were animal enclosures.
The archaeology of the 1940's showed that the hill was occupied from the late Bronze Age.
