| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2012-10-26) | Hi Martyn... thanks for interesting photos of new site. At the top of this Google Earth image are several round marks, and one more rectangular one. Are they old hut circles, or cairn circles, etc., and did you see them when visiting the circle?? | theCaptain (2012-10-27) | there are many of these other features out on the moor here, have a look around on the Google or Bing aerial pictures.
Some of the holes are old mining pits, and you get lines of them as they follow the line of the tin seam, or whatever it was.
Then there are many rectangular features, which I believe are peat drying platforms, where the peat cut from the top of the moor wa stacked up to dry before being taken away for use.
For such a "featureless and barren" landscape, there is an awful lot to be seen out on the moors! |
