Description Very rare over here, but quite common in parts of UK: 'Cup-marks' with ring. The surface of this erratic boulder shows at least 7 cups with rings. For some reason only one gets mentioned all the time. But even the official drawing depicts at least 3. August 2012

According to a photo-comment by a Megalithic Portal contributor this more outstanding rock-carving site in North-Germany was recently damaged by over enthusiastic cleaning. So I decided to examine the site by use of the extra light provided both by torchlight and off-camera flash at night.

The good news is that significant damage caused by the mentioned use of a high pressure jet to clean the surface is not observable. The cleaning process seemingly only removed discolorations/deposits of the carved parts which had enhanced their visibilty before. So without additional lighting the carvings in fact are more difficult to spot than before esp. as sunlight is partly blocked by trees.

In fact the surface revealed some more details than depicted in the official drawing. At least 7 cups with ring could be identified. Of course being quite common in the UK cup-marks with ring are very rare in this part of Europe.

I am not sure if the additional ones were discovered before as rock-carvings somehow get treated as an orphan over here. Possibly because most of them are less spectacular as their famous northern and western neighbours in Scandinavia and UK. As a result sometimes only historic depictions/drawings get carried over which is not sufficient in all cases.
