(2012-08-12) | Yes, this stone is unique. I have never heard or seen anything like this. Maybe "rock art" is not the right type of site, I had a problem deciding what type category to put it in, maybe others on this site has a better idea for a category, it doesnt seem to be a grave marker either like the standing stone, but it has probably had some ritualistic importance. | cerrig
(2012-08-12) | Kenntha, would you happen to know the compass direction that the long edge is pointing at. I have tried to work it out by the shadows, but I would need the date and time of day to use that method. | kenntha88
(2012-08-12) | No problem, for some reason I remember almost all compass directions of the sites I photograph, The longer edge of the stone is oriented roughly northeast - southwest with the standing stone in the northwest corner.

(2012-08-13) | Kenntha, I had figured, judging by your shadow, that you had probably taken these photo's in the evening, so my guess at orientation wasn't far away, but I had the standing stone in the South West corner. Can you confirm it's position please.
I am thinking the shadow from the tall stone may act as a kind of date marker as it's length alters throughout the year, possibly, as it crosses the flat stone, with the different humps corresponding to significant dates. | kenntha88
(2012-08-16) | Hello cerrig! well, I checked again and I can confirm the standing stone is in the north west corner, and the photos were taken at around 10am in the morning, but there are an issue of the sun, because in norway it doesnt get dark until around 11pm, they dont have midnight sun in summer in south norway but the evening last very long and there are not completely dark nights.
The date marker idea is fascinating indeed! I was actually thinking the same thing, however should not the standing stone be oriented on the flat side of the stone making the shade directly hit the slab? anyway, it is a very possible idea that there is some kind of marker stone. It is a very interesting idea!

(2012-08-16) | Kenntha, just brainstorming here, but could the peaks and troughs in the stone align in some way to the horizon? Or is there an a point from which sun or moon alignments become prominent on the stone. As with all these enigmas, there are so many possibilities. |
