(2004-09-12) | This brings back memories of July 2001, during my solo tour of Scotland and the Isles, arriving at the toll booth at about 9.30pm - a B&B yet to be found for that night - after driving direct from the Isle of Lewis on some horrible roads (via Torridon/Sheildaig/Tornapress). My previous Ullapool B&B landlady had recommended Kyleakin, but I was loath to pay the £5.70 one-way ticket. After an 'altercation' with the ticket seller, and him saying 'Well madam, you obviously don't want to go across the bridge tonight!", my tiredness made me 'give in' and pay the toll. (I had pointed out that it wasn't his fault!) I wonder how much it costs now? | swatson
(2004-09-12) | Well Angie, surprisingly enough it's still £5.70 but I understand that moves are now afoot to abolish the toll. Until then it remains the most expensive toll bridge in Europe. | hamish
