Taken from one of William Stukeley's 18th century drawings clearly showing a small mound. Just to the right of Silbury the red arrow shows the location of the disputed ancient site of "Silbaby"

This is not By William Stukeley but After him It is one of several known drawings that have been enhanced by local artists. John Britton did a similar drawing with the words "Barrow cut through by the Roman rd"
Core sample results will be in soon and we will know for sure wether it is Neolithic or just a rubbish dump.

Looking forward to those core samples and hopefully an answer to this mysterious mound!

this is an unusual picture, i don't think i have seen this picture in many places although it does look vaguely familiar as if i may have seen it somewhere once. there are visibly a number of mounds around avebury, do they all have some kind of significance?
