Southwestern end of a chambered tomb situated next to a small road in the village Heinbockel near Stade. The endstone and the adjacent pair of uprights are preserved and most probably in situ. The original chamber-size is unknown.
According to Körner (in Sprockhoff, Ernst (et al.) – Atlas der Megalithgräber Deutschlands – Teil 3 Niedersachsen - Westfalen, Habelt, Bonn, 1975, p. 22) the only remaining capstone was out of place but moved back on the uprights in 1966.
The tomb itself is rather impressive, but the site has lost most of its atmosphere: houses are nearby and there are 2 information boards and a bench unfavourably placed very close to the chamber [January 2008]. |
