I visited the baptistry for the first time, completely on my own, in the early-afternoon on a bright, sunny day in March this year. There were no ferns, and other vegetation was a lot sparser, and even the leaves on surrounding trees hadn't yet opened. Maybe this allowed more sun onto the site? That day it shone onto a vase of daffodils that someone had placed on the altar, and I stayed for quite a while, soaking up the lovely, peaceful, spiritual atmosphere. The most creepy place I've ever encountered was (during the same week) Creeg Tol, near Boscawen Un - or 'Boscanoon', as the Cornishman I was chatting to at Higher Drift stones called it.

My mother and father got married on this site almost 20 years ago. They actually married in the ruined chapel 50 yards but carried out most of the service at this well. It is therefore a very special place for me. It is also extremly beautiful.

A wonderfully peaceful place, and glad to see when we visited it this weekend, that it wasn't spoilt by all the halfwits who have spoilt the well by hanging 'crap' from the branches! I mean aside from the underwear, there were empty lager cans, miniture whiskey bottles, and bits of plastic carrier bags! - Missing the point or what?
