I like this stone a lot, I remember finding it on Google Street View (click on yellow above for site page). Thanks for visiting, at last we have photos!

I see you've 'Pokemonolithed' the Niddrie House stone as well - superb job.

Did you try looking for the Cat Stane which is 850m to the west?

Hi Andy, thanks... I did look for the cat stane but there was a high school in the way! Next time I am over in Edinburgh I shall 'hunt it down'.... :D

Hi Andy

The link you posted for the Google Streetview works fine and shows the correct location but the Streetview image posted above the maps is of The Haymarket which is miles away! Also the address for the site is wrong - Edinburgh is not in the county Midlothian, Edinburgh is a county itself.

Regarding the Cat Stane: the map reference on The Portal page (which is also the ref given by RCAHMS) is for the main building on the site, not the stone itself which is allegedly near Gilmerton Road. Using Google Streetview to look from Gilmerton Road into the school grounds I found some kids sitting on something at NT 2750 7050 which just might be the stone, although it looks too small to be 1.5m high. Have a look at http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=edinburgh+ravenswood+avenue&gbv=2&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Ravenswood+Ave,+Edinburgh,+United+Kingdom&ll=55.922031,-3.162045&spn=0.00404,0.010225&t=h&z=17&vpsrc=6&layer=c&cbll=55.921972,-3.161921&panoid=Hh5cY4pgUXskuM_LOBYp7Q&cbp=12,25.95,,2,7.73
Anyone investigating on site should seek permission or make sure the school is closed; pointing a camera at a school playground is nowadays considered suspicious behaviour and can lead to appalling consequences.

Oddly, if you have images set so you have to click to enable them...that Streetview image is initially in the right location and in a split second it changes to the one that's miles away.

It's started doing that for me as well. Could someone resubmit the Street View link and I'll remove the duff one

Here's the Streetview link, working when I tried it -

Yep..that works better, but it also seems that Warner's Estate Agents are trying to sell it?

No EA board on this one.

Cheers crannog but I might be barking up the wrong tree altogether. I wish I was in driving distance of Edinburgh, I could end this suspense!
